"UN-GGIM: Europe – enhancement of cooperation to promote data integration for policy outreach UN-GGIM: Europe Work Group on Data Integration "

In a modern world providing credible, reliable and independent geospatial and statistical data is one of the main functions of national statistical and geospatial agencies for policy and strategic decision making processes. Thereby, the need to combine this information together and to get new insights in relations are important aspects of the future work on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and upcoming topics.
This is why the Executive Committee of UN-GGIM: Europe has identified a list of issues to be addressed nationally and internationally, and presents these recommendations for coordinated action in all European countries through a ‘Policy Paper’. The power of data integration is demonstrated by providing examples. It is highlighted that users want the data simple and fast and that Europe has special circumstances reflecting important initiatives.
The UN-GGIM: Europe Working Group Data Integration will carry out the following tasks in the next 2-3 years:

  • Analysing further SDG indicators – focusing on Earth Observation, and can include as part of a sub-task ‘Requirements and practices from National Statistical Offices for the use of earth observation data for national statistics’

  • Advisory Group for global and European data integration issues

  • Analysis of (future) trends in data capture, creation, maintenance and management – using Linked (Open) Data methods to enhance data integration

This presentation will explain the content, the target audience and the dissemination plan for the ‘Policy Paper’ and will provide an overview on the new tasks of the Working Group.
